Salem, NY-Joyce E. Moffitt, 66, of Salem, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, December 30, 2009 at her residence with her family by her side. Born April 27, 1943 in Granville, she was the daughter of the late Walter Melvin and Alice (Smith) Whitney. Joyce attended Granville school and was employed in the finishing department at Manchester Wood in Granville retiring in 1996 after 9 years of dedicated service. Mrs. Moffitt raised her 6 children and enjoyed fishing, reading the Bible, walking and shopping.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Wayne R. Moffitt whom she married August 6, 1961; her 6 children, Wayne R. Moffitt, Jr. of Salem, Janet R. Jameson of Saratoga Springs, Penny A. Tuttle of Greenwich, Richard W. Moffitt of Glens Falls, Steven H. Moffitt of Salem and David P. Moffitt of Salem. She is also survived by a brother and his wife, James W. and Carolyn Whitney of Granville and her 8 grandchildren, Sarah Tuttle, Jesse Tuttle, Jr., Alexis Jameson, Kennedy Jameson, Steven H. Moffitt, Jr., Dorothy M. Moffitt, Brady J. Moffitt and Joseph W. Moffitt and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 2, 2009 at the Salem United Methodist Church, 29 West Broadway, Salem with the Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating. Immediately following the service, everyone is welcome to join the family in the church fellowship hall for a time of refreshments and to share memories of Joyce.
