Salem, NY-Pierce E. Campbell, Sr., 78, of Salem, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, January 28, 2010 at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. Born July 30, 1931 in Hebron, he was the son of the late John B. and Mary (McEachron) Campbell. Pierce attended Salem Washington Academy and entered the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and was medically discharged shortly after entering the service. He was a maintenance supervisor at the C.A. Baltz Shirt co. in Salem and then worked in the same capacity at the Pleasant Valley Infirmary in Argyle. He retired as the maintenance supervisor at the Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge after many years of faithful service.

Pierce served as a Village Trustee in Salem and then became Village Mayor for 4 years. He was a proud member of the Salem Volunteer fire Department where he received his 60 year member award in 2009. He served as past president of the Washington County Fire Police. Pierce enjoyed being part of the Salem community, especially the Fire department where the members were like his family. Pierce loved wood working and bird watching. He also loved to bowl in leagues in Cambridge and Granville. He was a big NASCAR fan and loved Jeff Gordon.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anna Mae (LaTulippe) Campbell whom he married August 2, 1952; a son, Pierce E. Campbell, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Saratoga Springs; two sisters, Isabelle Allen of Hebron and Rosalynd Tourge of West Hebron. Pierce is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Trisha Campbell of Hilton Head, SC, Tracy Campbell of Lexington, SC and Trevor Campbell of Saratoga Springs; two great grandchildren, Dominick Campbell and Ethan Campbell as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services with departmental honors will be held at 10:00 am Monday, February 1, 2010 at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl and Rev. Liam Condon co-officiating. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Salem.
Pierce had requested that there be no calling hours.
