Shushan, NY-Maria Lydia Lauer, 90, of Shushan, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. Born January 3, 1920 in the Town of Jackson, she was the daughter of the late Adolph and Marie (Audolensky) Boecherer. Maria graduated class valedictorian from Cambridge Union School and began her career as a teacher for many years. Upon retiring from teaching, Maria formed her own real estate agency, Cassandra Realty in Cambridge which she ran for a number of years before retiring. She loved to read and had hundreds of books in her home and traveled extensively overseas visiting her friends for many years.
Maria was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband, Eliburtis Lauer who passed away in 1964; a daughter, Cassandra Rohrs who passed away in 1971.
She is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Walrath of North Windham, CT; 4 nieces, 4 nephews and her friend and caregiver, Medrick Christman of Shushan.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
Interment will take place at a later date at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge, NY.
